Collins J. ("C.J.") Seitz, Jr. is a Partner in the firm’s Business Law and Intellectual Property Law Groups. He is the firm's Managing Partner and Chair of the Technology Committee. He represents clients in a variety of areas including corporate and commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, arbitration and mediation, mergers and acquisitions and trust litigation.
C.J. has tried cases and successfully argued appeals in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in various governmental matters, including en banc reversal of prior Third Circuit case law in the government official immunity area. His government clients include the State of Delaware and New Castle County, Delaware.
His private clients include businesses with national and international operations. He has litigated several high profile family trust disputes in the Delaware Court of Chancery, a non-jury court with an international reputation for resolving corporate and trust disputes.
He has conducted corporate/commercial hearings and trials before numerous courts throughout the United States including in Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina and Texas.
He was Chair of the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners and is President of the Court of Chancery Historical Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
In 2002, the United States District Court for the District of Delaware appointed C.J. as Special Master for pre-trial proceedings in the largest securities class action filed in Delaware, In re DaimlerChrysler Securities Litigation. He continues to serve as a court-appointed discovery master in complex business and intellectual property litigation in the District of Delaware.
In 2004, the Delaware District Court awarded C.J. the Caleb R. Layton Distinguished Service Award. The Award is conferred for volunteer representation of indigent clients in federal court proceedings. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America as a recommended commercial litigation, corporate law and intellectual property law practitioner in Delaware. He has also been recognized by ChambersUSA as a recommended intellectual property law practitioner in Delaware.
He is a director of the Laffey McHugh Foundation, a Delaware based foundation distributing funds to benefit non-profit organizations in Delaware and throughout the United States. He is also a Board Member of Community Legal Aid Society, Inc.
